Integrated ZIP compression on the fly
Keep your backups small
Backup Platinum can save backup data in form of standard ZIP files. This is useful not only because ZIP provides very good compression, thus reducing network traffic and storage space. Such approach provides more flexibility to you, because you can use any ZIP client to extract your data from backup.
Depending on your needs you can either compress each file separately producing one archive file for each original one, or store all files in a single ZIP archive. We use 64 bit ZIP format, so there is no practical limitation on the archive length and the number of files stored inside it.
Backup Platinum can create password-protected ZIP files. So, you have a choice between strong Blowfish encryption option and standard ZIP password protection. The latter is less secure, but it is fully compatible with third party software. Files encrypted with Blowfish can be compressed using ZIP method too. However since the standard does not support this type of encryption, the data from such archives can be restored only with help of Backup Platinum.
One more useful option is to store backup data into self-extracting executable files. Such files are also compressed with ZIP method and can be encrypted with Blowfish at the same time. So, you have all the advantages: strong encryption and possibility to extract data without any software at all.
You can split large backups to several volumes by specifying maximum volume size. This is useful if you want to be able to copy the data manually anywhere else.
Finally, whenever you use ZIP option, you can specify compression quality. As usual you need to find a compromise between faster processing and higher compression ratio.
